Introducing the “Uncommon Paths” Backpack Program for Beginner Hikers
Are you looking to explore the great outdoors but don’t know where to start? Look no further than Berkshire Family Hikes’ new “Uncommon Paths” program! Starting May 20, hikers can borrow a backpack full of beginner hiking materials from the Dalton Free Public Library.
Each backpack is curated with essential hiking supplies, including informational and educational materials, a safety kit, and more to make your outdoor adventure safe and enjoyable. And the best part? Library cardholders can borrow these backpacks at no cost for a week, giving you plenty of time to explore the beautiful trails of the Berkshires.
This initiative, in partnership with the library and the town’s Open Space and Recreation Committee, aims to promote outdoor exploration and community engagement. To celebrate the program’s launch, Berkshire Family Hikes will be hosting a kickoff hike event at the Pines Community Forest on May 17. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature alongside fellow outdoor enthusiasts and see the backpacks in action.
Thanks to a grant from the Dalton Cultural Council, this program is now a reality, and Berkshire Family Hikes is excited to introduce it to the Dalton community. Founder Taylor Staubach expressed her gratitude for the support of the Cultural Council, the library, and the Open Space and Recreation Committee in making this program possible.
Berkshire Family Hikes is dedicated to promoting outdoor exploration, education, and stewardship in the Berkshires, and the “Uncommon Paths” backpack program aligns perfectly with their mission. By providing accessible outdoor experiences that promote physical activity, mental well-being, and environmental responsibility, they are helping individuals and families connect with the natural world in a meaningful way.
